Bespoke shirt cutters drawing out patterns in cutting room

Discover Bespoke

A bespoke shirt order is crafted from scratch for the customer, as opposed to made to measure or custom shirt making where an order is made from a modified, pre-existing pattern. The term “bespoke” has its roots in British tailoring and the historic term “bespeak,” when the customer would order his choice of clothing and his tailor would make it uniquely for him.

Bespoke is a great option for many reasons. It is a luxurious experience, with your shirt cut exclusively for you to your exacting measurements, styling and choice of cloth. Our cutters are able to interpret and realise a brief for something that is truly individual. The scope is yours, the skill is ours.

Bespoke also represents an ideal solution for those with a trickier body shape. Like a good suit, it can transform your silhouette and the finished line of your ensemble. Get the foundations right and the rest will follow.  When the fit is right, comfort is assured.  Collars stand properly, movement is unrestricted and cuffs sit at the perfect length.

Whether for a special occasion, a nostalgic moment or simply for a desire to feel the best cloths against your skin, bespoke offers you infinite options and our cutters the potential to realise each one.

Bespoke at Budd

Bespoke shirt making is the cornerstone of Budd. It lies at the heart of the company and is how we started. Its DNA feeds into every shirt we make, be it bespoke, made to measure or ready to wear.

Budd is one of the last Jermyn Street shirtmakers to host its own working cutting room on site. Our cutting room sits above our Piccadilly Arcade shop. Our three cutters followed traditional apprenticeships into the trade and between them hold over a century of experience. The techniques and tools they apply to their craft today remain unchanged, whilst their experience, knowledge and fluidity continue to exceed expectations. There are no shortcuts in our bespoke process and no compromises when it comes to fit, quality and craft.

We believe we make the best shirts in London and our continued reputation for excellence spanning over one hundred years attests to this. As well as seeing customers at our London store, Budd’s cutting team also visits the USA twice a year for a series of trunk shows.

There is a minimum order of four shirts on first-time orders. Subsequent orders carry a minimum of two. Prices commence at £475.
